Learning !
To Lara R - my vocal coach
My March's month end was an amazing period. I have met with two young talented artists from Germany and Estonia. The encounter has been short but full of learning and positive outcome. I have been introduced to classical singing when I was 19 years old and has been fully dedicated to this activity for five years before getting into a professional life which required lot of my time and energy.
Coming back my encounter, I was amazed to connect with a 21-year old young lady who reminded me of myself at that age, full of passion and energy while keeping a child's soul and eye in everything she undertakes. She sees wonder in everything and is such a fiery soul. Through our exchanges, it came out automatically that she was willing to teach me everything she knows, she naturally set herself as my coach.
I listened diligently to every advise and techniques shared. To be honest, I must admit that I was longing for the next session gleefully as the exchange was so intense and reaourceful. One exercise we did, really caught me, and I learnt from it. What took me years to understand and put into practice, was executed within minutes of teachings. It was like knowing the theory my whole life but within the glimpse of a moment, understanding how it feels, applying the principles and actually, doing it the right way.
The technique taught was: Singing Upside Down! It was a sort out yoga pause, the Front Bending, allowing the upper body to loosen completely without any tension and from there I started singing. The sound was flowing easily, despite mumbling words which could not be articulated, leaving only the sound of the vowels. It was a pure moment of surrender. First, trusting the process through my coach's direction, secondly let go of all tensions and finally singing without the fear of being judged but only seeking in that exercise the freedom of the higher notes which did not required extra efforts from the muscle of the upper body parts.
I am so grateful of this encounter. I have not only learned some vocal techniques but I have also learned how to listen to my body as well. In the learning process, we might feel uncomfortable with some practice but if we trust the one leading us who eventually is seeing the results at the end of these gimmicks, we need to surrender!
Danke!
